As a refracted movement in the field of visual arts and literature, situated between the two world wars, surrealism was defined by André Breton in his 1924 manifesto as a means of reuniting the conscious and unconscious realms of experience, where dream and fantasy join the rational everyday world that is converted into an absolute reality. Starting his career very early, Jules Perahim would embark on a true artistic adventure during the interwar period, quickly becoming one of the main figures of Romanian avant-garde surrealism. Marked from the beginning by avant-garde influences, passing through expressionism and Romanian socialist realism, the artist Jules Perahim would eventually return to surrealism, which he would practice with determination starting in 1969, when he emigrated to France. In 1972, we find the artist Perahim among the pages of the editions "Les main Libres", by Jean Petithory and the album "Le Congrès", by Alain Jouffroy, within which he would contribute. In the same year, a significant contribution to his creation would be his journey to South Africa, a journey that would enjoy an impressive exhibition of paintings, gouaches and drawings the following year (1973), held at the Mony Calatchi Gallery in Paris.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Édouard Jaeger, Perahim, Édition Arcane 17, 1990.

PROVENANCE

Private collection, Paris

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0730/1526/3570/files/FullSizeRender_d38fc1e9-f9c5-44d1-9942-e6774e291cba.jpg?v=1766129366
