Alma Redlinger

Alma Redlinger (1924–2017) was one of the longest-living and most respected Romanian fine artists, an essential figure in modern and contemporary painting. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, where she studied under Camil Ressu and Alexandru Ciucurencu, Alma Redlinger developed a personal style, situated between classical modernism and lyrical expressionism, in which color, light, and form coexist in refined balance.

Her work is characterized by chromatic vitality, balanced compositions, and a rarely encountered poetic sensibility. She predominantly painted still lifes, flowers, interiors, urban landscapes, and female figures, in which the everyday world is transfigured into a space of harmony and visual joy. Each work reflects the artist's love for life, for the simple beauty of objects, and for the light that subtly shapes reality.

Throughout her career, Alma Redlinger participated in numerous exhibitions both in Romania and abroad, receiving important awards and distinctions. She was a member of the Union of Visual Artists and a constant presence in Romanian cultural life, remaining active in her studio until her final years.

Her elegant and balanced style conveys a state of serenity and optimism, and her rich, yet controlled, palette transforms each scene into a meditation on light and color.

Today, Alma Redlinger is considered a grande dame of modern Romanian painting, an artist of sensibility, balance, and universal beauty captured through color.
