Constantin Isachie Popescu

Constantin Isachie Popescu (1888 – 1967) was a Romanian painter renowned for the variety of genres he explored—still lifes, landscapes, portraits, and urban views.

Born in Pașcani, Popescu initially studied law and practiced as a lawyer for about ten years before dedicating his life to painting.
He subsequently honed his artistic skills at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, in the class of painter G. D. Mirea, continuing his studies in Paris, Florence, and London.

Popescu's work is characterized by a warm chromatic palette and discreet light, as well as a confident, moderate brushstroke—features that make his floral still lifes and landscapes two of his most appreciated registers. For instance, works featuring bouquets, vases, and flowers in the foreground reflect a sensitivity to everyday beauty, rendered with elegance and refinement.
In his landscapes, Popescu captures both rural areas and urban scenes—oscillating between the contemplative and the decorative, but always with a well-grounded sense of composition.

He gained prominence during the interwar period as a member of the "Tinerimea Artistică" (Artistic Youth) society, participating in permanent exhibitions and winning awards at Official Salons.

Today, Popescu's works are frequently identified at auctions and represent valuable choices for collectors interested in 20th-century Romanian painting—due to his clear style, accessible themes, and masterful execution.
