Mihail Simonidy (1870, Bucharest – 1933, Paris) was a Romanian painter and graphic artist, one of the refined voices of early modernity, situated at the intersection of easel painting, illustration, and decorative art. Trained in the atmosphere of European academies, he combined the rigor of drawing with the elegance of Art Nouveau lines and Symbolist suggestions, configuring a personal, sober, and poetic language.
In painting, he primarily cultivated portrait and genre scenes. His female characters, often depicted in interiors, are distinguished by their noble posture, restrained gestures, and carefully modulated light, which highlights the subtle chromatic palette.
