Vincent Grigorescu

Vincențiu Grigorescu (b. 1931, Romania – d. 2012, Italy) was an exceptional Romanian painter and sculptor whose works fall within the realm of abstract and conceptual art. Settling in Italy in the 1970s, Grigorescu became an important presence in the European art scene, while always maintaining a deep connection to his Romanian origins.

Vincențiu Grigorescu's work is characterized by remarkable geometric rigor and visual discipline, where line, rhythm, and surface are treated as essential elements of the plastic language. The artist was concerned with the relationships between order and chaos, light and matter, balance and tension. In his paintings and compositions, color becomes a pretext for structure, and form – an instrument of visual meditation.

Grigorescu created series of works in which repetition and minimal variation build a poetry of precision, bringing him close to the aesthetics of optical art and minimalism. At the same time, through his sculptures and objects, he explored three-dimensional space as an extension of drawing, proposing a vision in which art becomes an instrument of philosophical reflection.

Present in important international exhibitions, with works in collections in Romania, Italy, and other European countries, Vincențiu Grigorescu remains an essential figure of post-war Romanian abstract art.
