DOCUMENTARY DATA

From his first solo exhibition to the present, the themes and stylistics of his works have gradually defined themselves over time, encompassing landmarks related to history, collective and individual memory. Many of the motifs addressed by the artist are found in oppressively hermetic interior spaces, subterranean realms whose architecture and content are characterized by anachronism. His works allow us to observe the depths of evocative sites, where nebulous images from Eastern European history envelop the viewer with boundless force. The image of the detonated bomb, like an undermining of historical narrative, reveals feelings of anxiety and vulnerability, deeply buried in the collective consciousness.

• In 2015, Ghenie represented Romania at the 56th Venice Biennale.
• He is represented by renowned galleries such as Thaddaeus Ropac (Salzburg, Paris, London, Milan, Seoul) and Pace Gallery (New York, Los Angeles, London, Geneva, Hong Kong, Seoul). • His works can be found, among others, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Tate Modern in London, and Centre Pompidou in Paris.

  • The work participated in the exhibition Temporal Harmonies - From Classical to Contemporary in Visual Art, Noblesse Palace, Bucharest, March 26, 2025.
  • The work participated in the 1 Million Euro Exhibition, Art Safari, Bucharest, May 15 - 25, 2025.
