DOCUMENTARY DATA
Kéméndy Jenő was born in 1860 in Orăștie (Transylvania) and died in 1925 in Budapest. He began his art studies in Budapest, after which, between 1879 and 1883, he was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. From 1895, he worked as a set and costume designer for the Hungarian Royal Opera and the National Theatre in Budapest.
In 1926, Műcsarnok organized a memorial exhibition of the painter, after which two of his paintings were included in the Hungarian National Gallery.
Kéméndy Jenő mainly painted miniature pictures. That is why Spring Morning, created around 1900, with dimensions of 74x59 cm, is a rarity in the painter's oeuvre. The painting depicts a portrait of a beautiful, joyful young woman, standing by a window, surrounded by thick ivy vegetation and flowers, rendered in subtle colors and a fine pictorial style, framed in a profiled wooden frame.
