Octav Băncilă (1872–1944) was one of the most important Romanian painters of the early 20th century, known for the technical rigor, human sensitivity, and thematic depth of his creation. Although he is often associated with socially inspired painting – which captures the life of peasants, workers, and the injustices of the era – Băncilă's work is also distinguished by a series of works of subtle visual poetry, dedicated to nature and everyday beauty.
