The work illustrates the consecration of the Cathedral of Curtea de Argeș in 1517, in the presence of its founders, the ruler of Wallachia, Neagoe Basarab (1512-1521) and his wife Lady Despina. The church is one of the most important architectural monuments of Wallachia. A fresco with the donor couple served as a model for painting the figures in their rich garments, the prince on the left and the princess on the right, who distributes a jewelry box, the gesture symbolizing the personal financial support given to the new Cathedral.
